ELEC 101A - Electrical Apprentice 1A


First semester electrical students will establish a solid foundation in electrical fundamentals by completing the study of matter and atomic structure as well as electron theory and magnetism. The course will also cover math application and electrical formulas relating to Ohm’s Law and simple series circuits. Students will gain a basic introduction to the National Electrical Code requirements relating to residential wiring. The study of working drawings, lighting and receptacle circuits, conductors and wiring systems will also be included. Students will be introduced to construction and electrical safety, blueprint reading, and various industry related tools and equipment. A CPR course will be covered in this semester. A competency test will be given upon completion of the course.

ELEC 102A - Electrical Apprentice 2A


This course will consist of Basic Trigonometry, as related to right triangles and Alternating Current (AC) theory. The student will learn about single and three-phase AC power systems, inductance, capacitance, reactance, and power factor and power correction. Single and three-phase transformer theory and calculations will also be covered. Students will also begin a more comprehensive examination of the requirements of the National Electrical Code (NEC). A competency test will be given upon completion of the course.

ELEC 103A - Electrical Apprentice 3A


This course will provide the students will a detailed understanding of commercial electrical plan reading. Students will also learn applications and procedures required for commercial wiring. A comprehensive understanding of NEC requirements for grounding and bonding of electrical systems will also be covered in this course. A competency test will be given upon completion of the course.

ELEC 104A - Electrical Apprentice 4A


Fourth year electrical students will learn basic skills for becoming crew leader and managing electrical hazards. Conductor terminations and splices, medium voltage terminations and splices, distribution systems, heat and freezing protection, and special locations will be included. A competency test will be given upon completion of the course.

This advanced solar photovoltaic course is for individuals wanting to gain further details of design, site evaluations and National Electrical Code (NEC) pertaining to Photovoltaic systems. Course covers the procedures and techniques involving the verification of system designs, shade mitigation, electrical codes, safety standards, accepted industry practices and task analysis. After completing the three courses, students should be able to be given a set of basic instructions to specify, adapt, implement, configure, inspect and maintain PV systems that meet the performance and reliability needs of the customer and complies with all applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements. 30-hour class

ENRG 0102 - Solar Photovoltaic Basic 101


Prerequisite: (EPAE) Electrical Principals for Alternative Energy class required

This introductory course provides students with a working knowledge of Photovoltaic (PV) systems for new or intermediate installers. The course is for individuals wanting to gain an in-depth knowledge of PV systems, design techniques, equipment functionality as well as installation requirements and methods. It includes "hands-on" activities in a lab environment to apply skills to test and commission a system. Students will gain the required level of working knowledge for designing and installing PV systems. Course covers series and parallel circuits, shading, site analysis, mounting of cells, inverters, sizing, grounding, wiring, and overcurrent devices. Also provides an overview of the three basic solar power system applications, primarily focused on grid direct systems. Through classroom instruction and hands-on labs the course will provide the knowledge to know the features and applications of the four different systems, as well as identify points in curves. 30-hour class

PLUM 101A - Plumbing Apprentice 1A


During this course, students will gain an understanding of the history and importance of plumbing, an introduction to the occupation, general health and safety, and how to apply for a job within the plumbing industry. Students will learn about tools and equipment, including hand and power tools. As part of the course, administration, definitions, and general regulations of the International Plumbing Code will be included and students will learn pipefittings and mathematics as it applies to the plumbing industry. Students will get certified in First Aid and/or CPR Training in this course.

PLUM 102A - Plumbing Apprentice 2A


In this course, students will become knowledgeable in fixture design for commercial and residential; understand the definitions, general regulations of fixtures and faucets, water heaters, water supply and distribution for the International Plumbing Code. Water systems, joining pipes, and private water systems for residential plumbing will also be covered. Students will learn about Isometric Drawings for Plumbers, and rough-in locations. DWV Installations, supporting and testing pipe. In addition, Plumbing trade formulas will be reviewed.

PLUM 103A - Plumbing Apprentice 3A


In this course, students will learn general inspection, permits, material, exclusions, protections, trenching, excavation, piping support, water heaters and fixtures for the International Plumbing Code. They will also learn water heating and Hydronic piping including material, installation, valves, and testing. Vents, combustible air, chimney ventilation in the International Mechanical Code. Students will study rectangular solids, cylinders, and spheres in mathematics. Finally, students will learn how join PVC pipes and fittings, soldering copper pipes and fittings.

PLUM 104A - Plumbing Apprentice 4A


In this course, students will learn traps and commercial applications, storm drainage for the International Plumbing Code. As part of the International Mechanical Code, students will study boilers, water heaters, and pressure vessels. Welding safety, Oxy-acetylene cutting SMAW (ARC) welding, and GMAW (TIG) welding will also be included in the course content as it applies to the plumbing industry. Safety for confined space, lifting, trenches, and a Blue Stake’s Orientation. In addition, Plumbing trade formulas will be reviewed.
